Abstract

This paper describes the Simuloader, a full-scale multiaxial servohydraulic test bed for railcars; Damage Tolerance Analysis, a fracture mechanics based methodology used to establish inspection intervals for fatigue cracked structures; and the use of the former to validate the latter in the Stub-Sill Tank Car Research Program being undertaken by the railroad tank car industry in North America. This paper describes a work in progress; subsequent papers and reports are expected covering the results and conclusions of the program.
