Abstract

This system is conceptualised for the avoidance of extensive damage during collision in road vehicles. The system uses optical triangulation to gauge distances in the environment.

A laser beam will scan the environment horizontally, a camera will locate the image of the reflected ray. The data of the scan will be analysed as per the formulated algorithm, if certain parameters are exceeded and a collision is deduced to be inevitable, then external airbags mounted in the front and on the sides of the car will be inflated.

Better accuracy of optical triangulation ranging over radar ranging in short distances, enables the use of external air bags along with other regular collision avoidance features.
