Musculoskeletal models of movement typically use simplified representation of joints (i.e the knee joint as a hinge). This simplification can influence prediction of knee loading and muscle activation. Therefore, simulations that incorporate more realistic representation of knee structures, contact mechanics and muscle forces could increase our knowledge and understanding of joint and tissue loading during movement.
