Traumatic Aortic Rupture (TAR) is a major cause of fatality in motor vehicle crashes. In terms of numbers, only 9% of the subjects who experience such trauma (7500–8000 victims in US and Canada) survive from the scene of the accident and the overall mortality rate is 98% .
